The Porsche 986 Boxster was introduced in 1996 and was the brand's biggest volume seller until 2003, featuring water-cooled flat-six engines and a shared parts concept with the 911 Carrera (996). It was offered as a 2-door roadster with engine variants ranging from 2.5 L to 3.2 L, and was succeeded by the 987 in 2004.
